Saint Porphyrios used to say that on Mount Athos there are some birds, in the deep forests...
And what do they do? They chirp incessantly.
Not so that anyone can hear them.
No!
Do you know why they chirp?
To thank God for creating them. “Since, our God, you
have given us such speech,” – “bird speech,” as the poet says, – “we return it
to you.”
“Yours from yours.”
How beautiful it is! Like this. “Rejoice that you
created us.
And we say again: Rejoice and rejoice and rejoice!”
What is this? Unceasing Doxology! Unceasing prayer!
Prayer is not just saying the prayer "Lord Jesus
Christ"...
